What is a PHA Straw?

PHA straws are drinking straws made from a compostable bio-polymer. PHA straws look and feel like a plastic straw, but are designed to break down in either a commercial or home composter.

What are UrthPact's Home Compostable PHA Straws made of?

The straws are manufactured using Danimer Scientific's signature biopolymer, Nodax PHA®. The naturally occurring material was verified as an effective, sustainable alternative to traditional petrochemical plastics in a 2018 study led by the University of Georgia (UGA) researchers and members of the UGA New Materials Institute. Nodax PHA® has also been certified home compostable by TUV's OK compost HOME.
